Rising Stars visiting ZEISS

Yesterday, on a very rainy day, six “rising stars” visited ZEISS in Jena. The young ophthalmologists from Iran, Egypt, Georgia, Pakistan and Nepal – the 2014 fellows from the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) – were amazed to see the ZEISS products being assembled, and marveled at the expertise involved in optical lens production.

In their home countries, they had already worked with several of the devices. During their stay at hospitals in Germany and Austria, the doctors have the opportunity to improve their skills in ophthalmology and learn different approaches to the examination and treatment of eye diseases.

Well-trained doctors are vital, especially in rapidly developing economies and in developing countries, to prevent blindness and visual impairment. ZEISS has been supporting the fellowship program of the ICO since 2012 and is thus doing its part to train young doctors.
