“Key West Sunset in a Droplet”

The sunset show in the refraction of the droplet is one of my photographs taken in Key West, Florida, set upside down to make it appear on the right side in the drop. A bunch of flowers close to the main one appeared in the drop too. There is no post-processing. Only exposure adjustment.

It’s taken with a Sony NEX-5T with Sigma 60mm f/2.8 ART and viltrox 26mm tubes: 60mm, f/4.5, 1/4 sec, 100 ISO

Also, if some of you are interested to know how to do it, as an editor at iLHP, I wrote a tutorial here

First Zeiss Loxia unboxing vid and tests.

First Loxia lens tests at Dearsusans, BMCR and BerlinBackstage.

Berlin Backstage (google translation here) tested both Loxia lenses and explained that these lenses are completely different from the current 35 and 55 FE from Sony. With the Loxia you will approach the photography in a complete other way. These lenses are made for manual focusing lovers! For Berlin-Backstage Zeiss was 100% spot on to release those focal length lenses first!

DearSuasans tested the 50mm Loxia:

It is not a spectacular lens, like a Macro when it comes to detail, or the FE55 when it comes to sharpness, but it just does everything so well. Colours are first rate. Detail is excellent, including at infinity. Sharpness is excellent.

Hands-on and few image samples at Bestmirrorlesscamerareviews:

When Zeiss made the announcement, I couldn’t help but wonder why they decided to release two focal lengths that already exist in Sony’s AF series…But after trying them today, I have to admit that my first impressions are really positive about the two lenses. The image quality they produce seems really exceptional on both the A7r and A7s. But most importantly, they perfectly suit Sony’s full frame mirrorless system because they are small and therefore enhance the portability of the system.

P.S.: The Loxia 50mm is alreayd shipping in Germany (like here on eBay).

New Zeiss 16-35mm review at Techbang.

The first review of the new 16-35mm FE Zeiss has been published at Techbang (google tranlsation here). While the automated google translation makes a bit of mess on the text it’s still good to check out the site to see the many full size image samples! And there is also that comparison with the Canon 16-35mm f/4.0 L lens (Click on image to enlarge):

These are the conclusions from the reviewer:

– He liked the compact size and material quality

– Image quality is very high

– Good distortion suppression

– Slow focusing speed on the A7

– Higher price compared to the Canon 16-35mm f/4.0 (but the Zeiss is better)

An unusual comparison: Zeiss Otus 85mm Vs. Sony RX100

SAR reader Mike made that unusual comparison between the A7r with Otus lens and the first generation RX100 compact camera. And at the end the difference between the two are surprisingly small:

What I find astonishing is how little difference there is between the two, considering the vast difference in size, weight, sensors and price. Sure, the A7R/Otus combination wins, but not by that much. Besides, it bloody well better win! It’s up against a two-year-old pocket camera that weighs and costs a small fraction as much.
