Happy 198th Birthday, Carl Zeiss!
198 years ago today, our company’s founding father Carl Friedrich Zeiss was born. The fifth of 12 children, he grew up in Weimar, Germany, and went on to attend the University of Jena.
As a young student, Carl Zeiss showed a keen interest in technology, and after passing the required exam of the grand ducal office for above ground infrastructure, he was granted a license to manufacture and sell mechanical and optical instruments and to set up a mechanical workshop.
On 17 November 1846, he opened a small workshop in Jena with a fund of 100 Thalers, laying the foundation of our company's great technological history and heritage. #TBT
