Crystallography rocks! #5



Like a colorful coral in the Turkish sea: this is a fine-grained association of plagioclase and worm-like quartz (“myrmekite”) in an amphibolite-facies metapelite (kinzigite) from the Ivrea Zone (Italy). Quartz forms the worm-like thin parts and, after feldspar, is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth's continental crust.
