Crystallography rocks! #1
In this picture, what looks like an abstract painting is actually graphite and feldspar in an ultra-high temperature granulite from the Kerala Khondalite Belt in India. Not only is feldspar beautiful, it is also the main rock-forming mineral in the Earth's crust.
2014 is the international year of crystallography (www.iycr2014.org). In the micROCKScopica series, we will show you a series of wonderful microscope images by Bernardo Cesare, Professor of Petrology in the Department of Geosciences of the University of Padova, Italy.
