Roger Cicala cicala test the 90mm FE resolution and says it’s “Superb”!
Canon 100mm f/2.8 IS on 5D III (left) and Sony 90mm f/2.8 on A7r (right). Lensrentals.com, 2015
Roger Cicala from Lensrentals tested the resolution performance of the new and yet non shipping Sony 90mm f/2.8 G OSS macro lens and compared it with the yet best macro lens on market (Canon 100mm f/2.8 IS on 5D III):
At both focusing distances the Sony system is clearly out resolving the Canon system. We would expect that, to some degree, given the higher resolution Sony sensor. But the difference was, quite frankly, surprising to me. It would seem to indicate the new Sony 90mm Macro lens performs at least as well as the Canon 100mm f/2.8 IS L, from a resolution standpoint, anyway.
See the MTF chart comparison:
That sounds terrific! If you want to see a few image samples jump over at Gustavs images on SAR.

Sigma 24mm f/1.4 A-mount ART lens available for preorder at BHphoto.
Some good news for A-mount folks! The new Sigma 24mm f/1.4 ART A-mount lens is now on preorder at BHphoto (Click here).
DxOmark tested the new Sigma lens (Canon mount version) and writes:
Although at first sight the Sigma’s overall DxOMark score might not look as convincing as the two previous Art models from the maker, it is important to look deeper than the numbers suggest, especially at shorter focal lengths. The Sigma 24mm f1.4 DG HSM is the finest 24mm we’ve seen, although against the Canon 24mm f1.4L II USM, it’s a close-run thing. That model has slightly higher peak sharpness centrally at f4-5.6, but the Sigma has more uniform performance overall, including superior control of CA and distortion. It’s a worthy addition to the range and will only add to the maker’s reputation. Plus at around half the price of the Canon L-series equivalent, it’s a steal.
Reminder: Also those four new E and A-mount lenses can be preordered:

Focus Tracking Differences between Sony’s E-Mount and A-Mount Cameras by Gary Friedmann
Gary (video on top): “As I mention in my blog (friedmanarchives.com where this video first appeared), there are a lot of people for whom this situation may never come up. My purpose with the video is to let people better understand how the cameras evolved, and to touch on the strengths and weaknesses of each platform. It’s always useful to know under which circumstances your equipment will hit its limits, even if you never push it that far.”

And it’s german only, so it may not be interesting for you. As you sometimes post blogs of readers I thought you may like it.“
